I design the letter heads using my logo design and a leaf icon to put as the background as the leaf represents healing. I didn't want the background to be just plain white. I moved around the leaf icon and the details to see were they look best. I believe they are looking all good.

Research- Letter Head Layouts

Looking at different letter head layouts to give me inspiration to design my own for Ian's future business, to help me with the composition of were to put the logo and details.

Ian's Future Business Layout

I design a layout of Ian's future business, Ian wanted a list of things that he wanted for his business, he mainly wanted a good size gym and pool to help clients get better, He wants to give the best treatment he can.

Research- Physiotherapy Companies, the layout inside

Looking at the inside of physiotherapy companies to give me an idea of what Ian's future business will be like.

Design Progress- Back of Business card with plain background

Design One

Design Two

I really like the plain background, I believe it looks better than the gradient use background. I changed the size of the logo to compare what looks better, it big or small, I believe it works better with the logo being big as it stands out more. I'm still not sure on the shade of grey, I would like to print it and see how it would look.

I'm working with the composition of layout, text and logo. I want the logo to standout on the front and back as it is important. I put on a tempory address as this is for a future business for Ian. My favourites are design one, three and five. I really think the layout of these designs are looking good and stands out the best.

Seeing how the logo design looks with a plain background, using different shades of red and grey to see which shade makes the logo stand out more, the dark shade of the colours work best, Im liking the grey more than the red at the minute as I think grey will work better.

I started to design a logo for Ian's future business, I design a spine with circle shapes as I thought it would be creative, I also design a leaf to put in the logo as it means healing, a physiotherapy is all about healing and getting clients better. Im working with the composition, putting the icons in different areas to see what looks better, also changing the size of the icons to also see what looks better. Working with the composition is important, its getting the layout right and to advertise the logo well and making it look clear for the clients. I'm working with different colours, trying to stay away from the typical colours blue and green as there the most used colours for physiotherapy design. Working with different use of gradients, just testing some shapes and mixing colours together to see what looks best and give me more ideas. I'm really liking the use of the grey, I think it would work well, and the colour red too, might work with different shades of red to get the right one that would mixed well with the grey.

Week 7- Presentation update of Major Project DES 509

Link to presentation:

Presentation update of my major project, I will still be doing a lot of research but will start the design process.

Testing Fonts

Testing out Fonts

Testing out fonts with the name of the company, to see what looks better and what works best for the company name.

Mood Boards

Colour Schemes

The one that stands out to me most is the shade of greys and red, I might not use the red because red stands for danger, angry, and I don't want Ian's company come across that way as colours are important as it says everything.

Composition of Business Cards

Looking at the colour schemes to help me figure out what colours I am going to use to design the business cards and logo for the company.

I think its useful to look at the composition of the business cards, as all business cards are different, the layout is important. I want the logo and the information to stand out clear on the business card, want to keep it simple.

Research- Website

How to create a website

A useful website to help understand the meaning of creating a website for beginners.

Ten ways to increase User Interaction on a website

I thought looking at this website was useful because I want my website to be easy to use and have great content in it, these tips will help me design my website for Ian's company.

Branding/ Advertising

How to Brand

Information from the website:

"Defining Your Brand

Defining your brand is like a journey of business self-discovery. It can be difficult,
time-consuming and uncomfortable. It requires, at the very least, that you answer the questions below:
  • What is your company's mission?
  • What are the benefits and features of your products or services?
  • What do your customers and prospects already think of your company?
  • What qualities do you want them to associate with your company?
Do your research. Learn the needs, habits and desires of your current and prospective customers. And don't rely on what you think they think. Knowwhat they think.
Because defining your brand and developing a brand strategy can be complex, consider leveraging the expertise of a nonprofit small-business advisory group or a Small Business Development Center .
Once you've defined your brand, how do you get the word out? Here are a few simple,
time-tested tips:
  • Get a great logo. Place it everywhere.
  • Write down your brand messaging. What are the key messages you want to communicate about your brand? Every employee should be aware of your brand attributes.
  • Integrate your brand. Branding extends to every aspect of your business--how you answer your phones, what you or your salespeople wear on sales calls, your e-mail signature, everything.
  • Create a "voice" for your company that reflects your brand. This voice should be applied to all written communication and incorporated in the visual imagery of all materials, online and off. Is your brand friendly? Be conversational. Is it ritzy? Be more formal. You get the gist.
  • Develop a tagline. Write a memorable, meaningful and concise statement that captures the essence of your brand.
  • Design templates and create brand standards for your marketing materials. Use the same color scheme, logo placement, look and feel throughout. You don't need to be fancy, just consistent.
  • Be true to your brand. Customers won't return to you--or refer you to someone else--if you don't deliver on your brand promise.
  • Be consistent. I placed this point last only because it involves all of the above and is the most important tip I can give you. If you can't do this, your attempts at establishing a brand will fail."
Looking at the steps of branding as I want to do it right and make sure I'm covering everything there is to advertise a business.

A useful website to help me advertise my company.

"The hip angle (joint) is not always an accurate indication of pelvic tilt. This angle is affected by knee joint alignment and by pelvic alignment. When the knee is flexed the hip will be flexed, even if the pelvic is tilt is neutral. When the knee is hyperextended the hip will be extended, even if the pelvic tilt neutral or slightly anterior."

-Page 124
"Hip joint extension is a common postural fault evident in the individual who stands in swayback posture with posterior pelvic tilt and hyperextended knees. The combination of posterior pelvic tilt and knee hyperextension produces hyperextension of the hip joint. Standing in hip hyperextension (greater than 10 degrees) for prolonged periods can stretch the anterior joint capsule and place stress on the iliopsoas muscle and tendon. Activities that contribute to development of the hip extension are distance running, ballet, modern dance or any activity that includes the performance of "splits"."

"The scapular alignment is correct, but the movement of the scapula is impaired. Impaired scapular moment refers to insufficient or excessive range, alteration in orientation or inappropriate timing of scapular movement in relation to humeral motion. For example, although the subject has ideal shoulder girdle alignment, the scapula only upwardly rotates 40 degrees at simpleton of shoulder flexion."

-To decrease the excessive flexibility of the lumbar spine and to increase hip extensor extensibility.
-To train the patient to move more easily through the hip joints than through the lumbar spine.
-To encourage the use of the gluteus maximise during the return from flexion to erect standing.
-To enhance the performance of the hip extensor muscles."

"Hip Flexor Stretch (Two-Joint)
- To stretch the hip flexor, tensor fascia lata, rectus femoris and iliopsoas muscles.
- To correct the compensatory anterior pelvic tilt or rotation motion of the lumbar spine and the pelvis associated with shortness or stiffness of the hip flexor muscles.
- To correct the compensatory lateral rotation motion of the tibia associated with shortness of the tensor fascia lata."

Looking at the information the book contains.

Video Research- Physiotherapy

Looking up different methods of how to help pain and seeing how physiotherapist's explain the problem.

The third link is to a website with multiple videos to show different stretch techniques to help certain pain, I believe showing a couple of videos on a website will be useful as it shows what the business will offer.

Week 4- Presentation update of Major Project DES 509

Link to Presentation

Presentation of my major project, showing what I have done so far. I didn't attend this class as I was sick. I have been doing a lot of research of how to advertise a business.

Physiotherapy Layouts

Thinking about creating a business, I have to think about the company's atmosphere, is Ian's company going to be a homely feeling when you walk in or more of being at a clinic room for example. I have to think about what way is it going to be laid out so I can imagine were I can put the leaflets, the business cards, will I have posters up around the building, Im thinking how will I show this company, and how I will advertise it.

Physiotherapy Companies

Looking up different websites of physiotherapy companies, was looking at the layout of there websites, to give me an idea of how I want to layout my website for Ian's company, I do want it to be simple and not have it being complicated. Most websites I've seen just have the one page explaining the physiotherapist education background and what there business provides to help clients with pain. I want my website to target towards more sport injuries, but still be open to anyone who would suffer from any type of pain. I want the design to be simple as I think simple will work best.

Social Media Research

Researching social media, to see how people advertise there business, what type of social media do other physiotherapists use. By researching, the most use of social media is on Facebook, I found loads of physiotherapy companies advertising there business and having a link on Facebook to there official website, which I believe is a great idea because it will get more people looking at your business. It is easy for Facebook users to click on there page and visit there website to have a look for more information or even book an appointment.

Physiotherapy business cards and Logos

Looking at different logo and business cards designs to give me an idea were to start designing. I see that most designs are very similar and would like to be different and design a perfect logo for Ian's future business with his personality in it so that it would stand out more. The colour scheme from the images I got seem to be all blue and green, It seems to be the typical physiotherapy colours, I will like to try out different colours like the use of red or purple.

Week 1- Presentation of my Major project idea!

Link to my Presentation

I plan to work with graphic design as that's what I want to do in the future, be a graphic designer. I want to work on my branding skills. I picked to create a future company for a client who is also my brother. My brother Ian is studying physiotherapy in Aberdeen Scotland, and hope to get his PHD in Arizona after. It will be a physiotherapy company, I plan to design the logo, business cards, letter heads etc. The company is going to be called "IPC- Ian's Physiotherapy Company".

The presentation will explain what I plan to do week by week.
